REED CITY, MI – On Wednesday, June 6th, 2018, at approximately 6:51 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Mt. Pleasant Post responded to a 911 call in Richmond Township. The caller reported finding a man on their property behaving erratically.
Once on scene, troopers detained a 20-year-old man who was identified by witnesses as being involved in an assault of a senior citizen. Further investigation led to the identification and treatment of an 80-year-old man, who had sustained serious trauma to his face, as well as a stab wound in his neck.
During the additional investigation, the 20-year-old suspect was identified as the assailant in the incident. He was subsequently lodged at the Osceola County Jail, where he awaits serious charges.
No further information is available at this time. Details of the arrest, including suspect and victim identification, are being withheld at this time pending further investigation and suspect arraignment.
At the very minimum the suspect could be charged with felony assault and battery or elder abuse for his actions.
Troopers were assisted by Reed City Fire and Rescue and Osceola County EMS with aid and treatment of the victim.
