Minibike Accident Kills Child in Allegan County

SAUGATUCK TOWNSHIP, MI – On Wednesday, July 4th, 2018 at approximately 7PM the Allegan County Central Dispatch received a call concerning a serious personal injury crash that had occurred on 126th Ave. east of Blue Star Hwy. in Saugatuck Township. 

The crash involved a small dirt bike style motorcycle and a westbound passenger car.  Two minor children who were riding the dirt bike were critically injured and were subsequently flown by AeroMed and West Michigan Air Care to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.  The driver and two other passengers in the car were uninjured.  The driver of the passenger car provided a statement at the scene and was released after initial investigation.

One of the children has died from their injuries at the hospital while the second child remains in critical condition.  Because they are minors their names will not be released.  The crash remains under investigation and the passenger car operator’s name will not be released pending the completion of the investigation.  Neither child was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Fennville Police Dept., Douglas Police Dept., Michigan State Police, Saugatuck Twp. Fire Dept., Ganges Fire Dept., AMR Ambulance, AeroMed and West Michigan Air Care.
