Shelby Township Officer Involved in a Fatal Shooting

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI – A Shelby Township Police officer was placed on administrative leave after he fatally shot a suspect he had a confrontation with in the parking lot of an apartment complex Saturday evening.

On Saturday November 3rd, 2018, at 1:00AM, officers from the Shelby Township Police Department responded to investigate an occupied stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Spring Lane Apartment Complex.

During the investigation, the man who was inside of the stolen vehicle refused to comply with direct orders from police at the scene. They continued to repeat their commands. The suspect then informed the officers that he was armed with a gun.

An officer fired his weapon towards the suspect to stop his aggressive behavior. The suspect was hit once by the gunfire from the police officer. Aid was immediately rendered to man by Shelby Township Police and members of the Shelby Township Fire Department.

The suspect was transported to Troy Beaumont Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The investigation has been turned over to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office as per protocol when an officer is involved in a shooting of this nature.
