1 Killed in Fiery Rollover Accident on E Holly Road

HOLLY, MI – On Saturday November 17th, 2018, at 10:50PM, Metro North Troopers responded to a one car rollover crash that was on fire with occupants trapped inside on E Holly Rd near Tucker Rd. Police raid

Tpr. McLaughlin was the first to arrive on scene and reported the driver and front passenger were entrapped with the vehicle on fire.

Troopers attempted to pull the victims from the burning vehicle but were initially unsuccessful due to the victims legs being pinned under the dashboard and flames coming from the engine compartment.

Troopers used their patrol car fire extinguishers to knock down the fire to the point were they were able to get to the victims and were able to remove the driver. The fire department arrived and started to put the rest of the fire out.

Troopers used the fire hose to keep the flames down and off of the passenger as the fire department worked on the vehicle using the Jaws of Life to free the victim. Both the driver and passenger were transported to a local hospital with severe burns.

The driver of the vehicle, a 22 year-old man, from Clarkston, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The second victim, who was the passenger in the vehicle, is identified as 20 year-old Jacob Veeder from Waterford.  He sustained critical injuries. Jake sustained burns on about 24% of his body during the car fire.  He also sustained several broken bones and fractures. He is in a medically induced coma in the burn unit of Hurley Hospital. Jacob’s family reached out on social media asking for prayers as he has already endured surgery and will need more as his body begins to heal.

Chuck Spain, who is Jake’s boss at Hungry Howies Pizza, posted this heartfelt message to Facebook:

For those who don’t know, I have several people that I work with that seem to make their way into my heart as well as being an employee! Jake Veeder is one of them. He has been an insider for little over a year. I have grown quite fond of him. He was just starting to get his life in order. Just got his GED, has a very supportive Girlfriend, and is planning on attending college! Everyone that meets Jake falls in love with him almost instantly. We CAN NOT LOSE HIM!!!

Please continue your thought and prayers!

The third victim is a 17-year-old female from Davisburg. We will not be identifying the young lady because she is a minor and fortunately she did not suffer any significant physical injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that alcohol nor drugs were being factors in the tragic accident. However, speed was a factor as it appears that the vehicle was being driven too fast to negotiate the curved roadway.

The investigation continues by Metro North Post and the MSP traffic reconstruction team.
