KALAMAZOO, MI – On Wednesday November 14th, 2018, officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the report of an unresponsive child at a residence in the 1200 block of Summit Avenue.
Officers arrived at the home and located a 7-month-old child who was not breathing and did not have a pulse. Resuscitation efforts were conducted and the child was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital, but despite life saving efforts the child was ultimately pronounced dead.
A 38-year-old Kalamazoo man has been charged in the death of the 7-month-old boy. Sonny Larson, who had been the live-in boyfriend of the child’s mother, was arraigned last week on murder and first-degree child abuse charges.
Larsen reportedly confessed that he became angry and frustrated when the infant boy would not stop crying, and violently began to shake the baby.
An autopsy showed the infant suffered head and neck trauma.
