DETROIT, MI – At 3:15AM on Saturday November 24th, 2018, MSP Metro Detroit 911 received a call that on East bound I-94 at Chalmers in Detroit there was a serious accident and there is a man laying on the freeway not moving. When troopers arrived they confirmed it was a fatal crash.
A 34-year-old man from Rochester Hills was traveling eastbound on I-94 in a Buick passenger car when he lost control and struck the left shoulder wall. The vehicle ended up in the right lane.
A Toyota pickup also traveling east bound slammed into the rear-end of the Buick causing it to spin. The driver of the Buick was ejected from his vehicle. The 34-year-old driver died at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota was suspected of driving while impaired. A breath test was performed and a blood draw was done pursuant to a search warrant. The driver of the Toyota was lodged at the Detroit Detention Center. Their Blood Alcohol Content was measured at .17.
The freeway was closed for approximately 5 hours.
His family has been notified. No other injuries were reported.
The investigation is continuing.
