Domestic Fight Lands Flint Man in Otsego County Jail

GAYLORD, MI – On December 4th, 2018, at about 12:40AM, troopers from the Gaylord Post were sent to a residence on a suspicious situation call in Otsego Lake Township.duty - phillips

The caller who was identified as 25-year-old Chelesa Duty, later attempted to call off the police response but troopers continued where they contacted the woman at her residence.

During their investigation troopers found evidence that Chelesa Duty, of Gaylord, had been assaulted by 44-year-old Jeremy Phillips, of Flint, and that Phillips had since fled the scene.

As the investigation continued at the scene, Gaylord Police Officers found Phillips at another location. He was taken into custody by Gaylord Police at the request of MSP.

Further investigation led to the discovery of substances suspected to be methamphetamine and LSD. Due to that discovery Chelesa Duty was also arrested and lodged in the Otsego County Jail.

The case was sent to the Otsego County Prosecutor who issued charges for both individuals.

Chelesa Duty was charged with:

  • Possession of Meth, and
  • Possession of LSD

Jeremy Phillips was charged with:

  • Possession of Meth
  • Possession of LSD, and
  • Domestic Violence

Both were arraigned in the 87th District Court in Gaylord on December 4th, 2018.

Based on records from the Michigan Department of Corrections, Jeremy Phillps has an extensive criminal history.  He has previous convictions for:

  • Stolen Property – R/C $1000 or More But Less Than $20,000
  • Home Invasion – 3rd Degree
  • Stolen Property – R/C $1000 or More But Less Than $20,000
  • Police Officer – Assault/Resist/Obstruct
  • Retail Fraud – 1st Degree
  • Prisons – Prisoner Possessing Contraband
  • Stolen Property – R/C $1000 or More But Less Than $20,000
  • Escape – Prison
  • Forgery of Bank Bills & Notes

He was released from prison in August of 2018
