Icy Roads Believed to be Cause of Fatal Manistee Crash

BEAR LAKE TOWNSHIP, MI – Icy roads are believed to be the cause of a fatal crash in Manistee County that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man.Manistee County Sheriff

Just before 11:00PM on Friday December 21st, 2018, Manistee County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a single vehicle accident on 9 Mile Road near the intersection of Big Four Road in Bear Lake Township.

The driver and only occupant was identified as Russell Rivord, 25-years-old, of Manistee.

The preliminary investigation determined that Russell Rivord was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer eastbound on 9 Mile Road when the vehicle left the roadway, went through a driveway embankment and then struck a tree. Mr. Rivord was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Icy road conditions along with the driver not wearing a seatbelt are believed to be contributing factors to the fatal crash.

The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the LRBOI Trible Police, Bear Lake Township Fire Department and Munson Ambulance Services.

The accident remains under investigation.
