Kentucky Murder Suspect Taken off of Detroit Streets

LEXINGTON, KY – A Detroit man who was wanted for the murder of a 27-year-old woman in Lexington was taken into custody in Detroit on Tuesday, February 19th, 2019, by the U.S. Marshals Service and local authorities.

The Lexington Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, were searching for 28-year-old James E. Ragland II in connection with a fatal shooting last month of 27-year-old Iesha Edwards.

Around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, January 26th, officers were dispatched to The Fox Club, a Lexington strip club, located at 987 Winchester Road for a disorder involving firearms. Upon officers’ arrival, several people were seen fighting in the parking lot, and Ms. Edwards was found lying on the ground. She was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a physical altercation between several men and women broke out inside the club and moved outside the building just prior to the shooting. Witnesses described the suspected shooter as a black man with a beard wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. He had a tattoo on his right hand and on the left side of his neck.

On Thursday, January 31, U.S. Marshals in Detroit arrested Ragland’s alleged accomplice, 29-year-old Gaige Phillips on a warrant for Criminal Facilitation to a Murder. Investigators determined that Ragland fired multiple shots at the Fox Club on January 26th and that Phillips assisted in Ragland’s escape.

Based on records from the Michigan Department of Corrections, James Ragland was listed as an Absconder from Parole. He has previous felony convictions for:

  • Robbery Armed
  • Weapons – Felony Firearms

He is currently lodged in the Wayne County Jail awaiting extradition.
