Houghton Man Killed in Snowmobile vs Vehicle Accident

HANCOCK, MI – Michigan State Police Troopers were dispatched to a snowmobile vs. motor vehicle personal injury crash on Lake Annie Rd and Trail 3 in Franklin Twp. on Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:20 p.m.police-raid 800x533

Troopers advise Timothy Young, a 53-year-old Houghton man, was traveling south on the trail and failed to yield to traffic while crossing Lake Annie Rd. when he was struck by a 2001 Subaru being driven by Stephen Wright, a 21-year-old man from Atlantic Mine.

Life-saving efforts were performed by responders at the scene; however the driver of the snowmobile succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Subaru was not injured in the crash. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Mercy Ambulance, Hancock Police Department, and the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department.
