TROY, MI – On Wednesday, March 20th, 2019, at approximately 5:35 PM, Troy officers responded to the 2100 block of Shelley, in the Troy Villa Mobile Home Community, to check the welfare of a resident, at the request of family members.
Officers learned that the 61-year-old woman had not been seen since Monday, March 18th and attempts by the family to contact her had gone unanswered. Officers were unable to locate the resident and began treating the incident as a missing person investigation.
Ultimately, officers located the missing woman dead inside the residence inside of a closet. There had been efforts made to conceal the body and obvious trauma was observed. It was apparent that the woman was a victim of homicide.
The investigation led to a relative of the victim, her son, who was located in Oak Park and taken into custody. A second subject, who resides at the Shelley address was also brought in for further questioning. The Troy Police Department is confident that there is no threat to public safety at this time.
The woman had been a resident of Troy for several years and there had been no significant law enforcement contact at the Shelly address. Further information regarding the identity of the victim is not presently being released in order to allow ample time for additional family notifications.
Police are saying that there are possibly mental health concerns that may have played a role in the homicide.
