Christopher Cox is a pastor at a Traverse City area church.
While there is no current evidence that his work at the church was involved in the incidents, it is believed that his influence as a pastor may have played a role in his alleged crimes.
On March 14th, 2019, troopers spoke with a 19-year-old man who reported that Cox had drugged him before sexually assaulting him at a business office in Garfield Township. The teenager stated that Christopher Cox had contacted him on Facebook and lured him to his office with the promise of crystal meth. The victim reported that Cox did provide him with meth, but then also gave him GHB, commonly known at the ‘Date Rape Drug’. The 19-year-old reported being incapacitated by the drugs when he was sexually assaulted. The victim was transported to Munson Medical Center for an examination where evidence supporting his statements was found.
On March 18th, a search warrant was executed on Cox’s home and business office. Several mobile devices were seized. Along with those devices, investigators located suspected crystal meth, GHB, digital scales, and packaging materials. A subsequent search of the digital devices by the MSP Computer Crimes Unit uncovered additional evidence. CCU is continuing a thorough examination of all seized devices.
On March 22nd, a second victim was developed through investigative leads. The 26-year-old man reported nearly the same identical circumstances and allegations as the first victim but added that he was threatened by the suspect not to report the event at the time of the crime.
With the assistance of troopers from the Rockford Post, Cox was located and arrested in Muskegon on March 29th. At the time of his arrest, Christopher Cox was found in possession of a packaged white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
Due to the nature of the case and the fact that two victims have come forward, investigators recognize the fact that additional victims and witnesses may exist. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Michigan State Police Cadillac Post at 231-779-6040.
Cox was transported to the Grand Traverse County Jail. He may face additional charges in Muskegon.
The Grand Traverse County Prosecutor has charged Cox with two counts of CSC 1st Degree, and one count of Possession with Intent to Deliver Meth. He was arraigned in the 86th District Court where a $100,000 bond was assessed.
