DETROIT, MI – Vincel McQuiel Lewis, 49-years-old, of Warren, has been formally charged in connection with the fatal car crash that killed his ex-girlfriend, Laquita Durant, 39-years-old, of Ferndale and her friend Larry Hurst, 32-years-old, of Warren.
On April 9, 2019, at 12:13 a.m., it is alleged that Vincel Lewis was driving a rental truck when he saw Ms. Durant in her car with Mr. Hurst. It is further alleged that Lewis chased Ms. Durant’s car, causing her to crash into a tree in the 20520 block of Wyoming.
The car caught fire on impact, trapping Ms. Durant and Mr. Hurst inside the vehicle. The victims did not survive and were transported to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office from the scene.
Vincel Lewis has been charged with two counts of Second Degree Murder. He was arraigned before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman and remanded to jail. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 8, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for May 15, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court.
