DETROIT, MI – The body of a 26-year-old woman was found inside of a dumpster outside of the Parkview Towers on the east side early Wednesday morning, May 15th, 2019.
She is being identified on social media as 26-year-old Elizabeth Candice Nichole Laird.
Elizabeth Laird is the third woman in less than a week to be murdered on the east side of Detroit. The first woman was gunned down in the 3400 block of Van Dyke early Mother’s Day morning. The second was shot and killed in the 5900 block of Guliford Street on Monday May 13th, 2019.
Detroit Police said Elizabeth Laird had been inside of the Parkview Towers apartment building visiting a boyfriend. She left and then came back. Then she disappeared. Some of her belongings were found inside of that dumpster which lead to the discovery of her body buried under trash.
Surveillance video shows Laird had an argument with a man who also left. Police do not know how he got inside of the secured gated complex.
The victim and a person of interest were seen together inside the apartment building’s elevator. Detroit Police said the man may have information on her murder.
Police are also looking for the dark colored vehicle in connection with this horrible murder.
On Friday May 17th, Detroit Police identified the suspect as James Cockerham.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide. She died from Compressive Asphyxia. Compressive asphyxia is limiting expansion of the lungs by compressing the torso, hence interfering with breathing.
