EASTPOINTE, MI – On May 22nd, 2019, at 3:40pm, Eastpointe officers were radioed to the area of 9 Mile and Gratiot on a report of a large fight.
While investigating the fight, officers were notified by a citizen that he observed one teenager had a pistol and handed it off to another. Officers located the teenager, Deshawn Keller of Detroit, who allegedly had the pistol.
After a foot pursuit through yards, Keller was arrested. No one was injured. Evidence, including a pistol, was recovered in a backyard in the area of the arrest.
Officers were able to track down and arrest Dayveon Coleman, of Eastpointe, for allegedly giving the pistol to Keller.
In December of 2018, Deshawn Keller was arrested and charged after dozens of car windows were shot out by a BB gun on November 19th in Harper Woods.
Keller was charged with one count of malicious destruction of personal property — $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, a five-year felony; one count of felony firearm — pneumatic gun, a two-year felony; one count of possession of a loaded firearm in or upon a vehicle, a two-year high misdemeanor; and one count of malicious destruction of a building — less than $200, a 93-day misdemeanor.
Both defendants were arraigned in the 38th District Court on charges of Carrying a Concealed Weapon. Keller was given a $50,000 cash / surety bond and Coleman a $5,000 cash / surety bond. Their next court date is 6/4/19 at 1:00pm.
Thank you to all of the citizens who called or gave infomation to the officers during the foot pursuit. Again, great job to the officers involved who quickly brought this tense, rapidly evolving situation to a successful resolution with no one injured.
