DETROIT, MI – At approximately 1:00AM, on May 24th, 2019, a caller to 911 told dispatch that a shooting had taken place and that there was a person dead in front of her house. She lives near Laing and Morang Ave on Detroit’s east side.
Detroit Police along with EMS responded to the scene. The investigation found that two men were sitting in a red Nissan when another vehicle drove by and opened fire. An 18-year-old man, Demarkus Washington, was shot and killed. The second victim is a 22-year-old man. He is hospitalized. The cause of the shooting is under investigation.
It was a very violent night. A total of 7 people were shot in 5 different locations throughout the city last night.
One shooting happened around midnight during a music video shoot on Edgewood and Erwin. Two people were hit by gunfire. One is in stable condition. The other is in critical condition. Two people were taken into custody.
Around 1:50 a.m. Friday, a 42-year-old man was shot on Broadstreet Ave. near Collingwood. The victim is in stable condition.
Around 1:50 a.m. Friday, a 20-year-old woman was shot in the area of 7 Mile and Lahser. She is listed in stable condition.
Around 11 p.m. Thursday, a woman was shot in the area of Angline and McNichols. She is listed in stable condition.
