PONTIAC, Mi – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting Deputies with the investigation of a fatal crash that occurred on Woodward and South Blvd. in the City of Pontiac.
The incident occurred in the intersection of west bound South Blvd and north bound Woodward at approximately 11:49AM on June 9th, 2019.
A 38-year-old Pontiac resident was driving a black 2013 Dodge Challenger and was stopped at the light of west bound South Blvd. waiting to turn left onto south bound Woodward when it was struck from behind by a 2000 white F-150. The F-150 was being driven by a 61-year-old Pontiac resident. The F-150 struck the rear of the Dodge and pushed it into the intersection. The Ford lost control and crossed the intersection and began to turn south onto Woodward. The Ford continued onto south bound Woodward when it encountered the concrete curb that borders the center median. The collision with the curb caused the Ford to rollover onto its driver’s side.
The driver of the Ford was the sole occupant of the truck at the time of the collision. The driver of the Ford was partially ejected from the truck and was killed. The driver of the Dodge fled the scene after the collision and was taken into custody by Deputies shortly after. The driver of the Dodge was lodged at the Oakland County Jail. Charges are pending.
The driver of the Dodge was not injured in the crash. There was no airbag deployment in the Dodge.
The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead on scene and was not wearing a seatbelt. There was airbag deployment in the Ford.
Alcohol / drugs use is unknown for both parties involved in the incident. The crash remains under investigation.
