PONTIAC, MI – A 25-year-old Pontiac man with possible mental health concerns is being accused of trying to kidnap a child this past Saturday.
On Saturday June 15th, 2019, at about 10:15AM, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Star Liquor Store located in the 10 block of East Auburn Road on the report of an attempted kidnapping.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke to the complainant who stated a man attempted to grab her 3-year-old daughter. The mother yelled at the suspect to step away. The suspect stepped away then came back and grabbed the girl again and tried to pull the child away from her mother. A friend of the mother displayed a can of mace and pointed it in the suspect’s direction. The suspect let go of the child and fled the store on foot, traveling eastbound on East Auburn Road.
Deputies located the 25-year-old suspect walking along East Auburn Road near Shirley Street where he was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was transported to the scene where he was positively identified by the mother. The suspect was then transported to the Pontiac Substation to be interviewed by Detectives. After being interviewed, the suspect was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending the issuance of criminal charges.
The suspect has a current mental health order from Wayne County Circuit Court and a valid misdemeanor from Lincoln Park PD.
