MARTIN, MI – On Saturday June 15th, 2019, at approximately 7:00pm, Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Martin area.
Investigating deputies were able to learn information about the suspect, identified as 22-year-old William Thomas Travis, and took a report concerning the stolen property.
Later in the evening, William Travis abandoned that vehicle and stole another vehicle from the Wayland area. He then crashed this second vehicle in the Hopkins area. Deputies attempted a K-9 track however they were unsuccessful in locating him at that time.
Travis would continue on to commit more crimes and they would escalate into Sunday morning.
At about 7:00am, William Travis car-jacked another vehicle while armed with an assault rifle. He was reported to be in the area of 128th Avenue and 56th Street in Manlius Township which is located in the northwest part of Allegan County. Deputies raced to another incident involving the same William Travis who was reported to be shooting at houses.
Travis entered a home and held the occupants at gun point while he attempted to steal yet another vehicle. Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies confronted him as he was attempting to leave the residence in their vehicle. He refused to obey commands and was heading back to the house when deputies engaged him with gunfire. William Travis was injured and transported to the hospital.
No deputes were injured.
William Travis was arraigned today in the 57th District Court on numerous felony charges including Home Invasion, Attempted Murder, Felonious Assault and Carjacking.
He is currently being held at the Allegan County Jail with approximately $650,000.00 in bonds.
