55 yr old Mason County Man Drowns in Gun Lake

SHERMAN TOWNSHIP, MI – A sad beginning to what was to be a relaxing 4th of July when it turned tragic for one family when a man drown in Mason County’s Gun Lake today.

On Wednesday July 3rd, 2019, at 2:40PM emergency crews responded to a reported drowning on Gun Lake near the Sherman Township Park off Townline Road in Mason County’s Sherman Township. Gun Lake is located near Ludington.

Despite lifesaving efforts by those emergency responders, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the second water emergency on Gun Lake in the past day and the two events were not related.

Pending the notification of family, the victim is only being identified as a 55-year-old male who is a Mason County resident.

Michigan DNR-Law Enforcement, Federal Forest Service, Life EMS and Free Soil Fire & Rescue all assisted the Mason County SO at the scene.
