Family Struggling to Bury Loved Ones Killed in Crash on City’s East side

DETROIT, MI – The heartbreak of a family is immense as they are trying so hard to bury not one but two of their relatives who were killed by a careless and reckless woman behind the wheel of the vehicle that caused the crash that took the lives of a husband and wife. The family needs your help to properly bury those two individuals.Sherwin and Latan Cooper

On Tuesday July 9th, 2019, at 3:50 p.m., Markia Pitts was driving a white sedan in the area of East Outer Drive.  It is alleged that while making an improper turn, she was struck by a black sedan, driven by a woman.  When Pitts failed to stop after the accident, the black car followed her and attempted to signal for her to pull over.

Markia Pitts failed to pull over and, at Frankfort and Chalmers Streets, it is alleged that she drove at a high rate of speed, disregarded a stop sign, and crashed into a blue sedan.  The blue car was driven by 34-year-old Sherwin Cooper, with his 31-year-old wife, Latan Cooper, in the front passenger seat. Their 9-year-old son was in the rear passenger seat. He survived the crash.

A Go Fund Me account has been established to assist the family with the high costs of burying two people. The family of Sherwin and Latan Cooper are having a difficult time trying to pull together over $8,000 that is needed to bury their loved ones.
