Lansing Man Poses as Cable Guy to Steal from Homes

MASON, MI – A Lansing man was arrested after tips came into the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office as to the identity of a man who was posing as a cable guy so he could steal items from unsuspecting home owners.

In March of this year Deputies responded to a residence in the 5000 block of W Columbia Rd in Aurelius Township for a report of a theft. The suspect arrived at the victim’s house and pretended to be a cable repair man.

In April deputies responded to a similar incident at a home in the 3000 block of Tuttle Rd in in Leslie Township. Again the same suspect showed up at the home pretending to be a cable repair man and again stole items from the home.

With tips from the public a suspect was identified and the case was referred to the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.

On July 18th the case was presented to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office who authorized charges.

On July 19th the suspect identified as Kevin Roy Burke, a 33 year old Lansing man, was arrested and arraigned at the 55th District Court in front of Magistrate Blumer on charges of Felony – larceny in a building, Felony – false impersonation of a public utility worker and Misdemeanor – Defraud by false pretenses. His bond was set at $10,000.00 and his next court date is August 1st at the 55th District Court in Mason.
