MSP Trooper involved in Multi-Vehicle Fatal Accident

DEWITT TOWNSHIP, MI – At approximately 8:30 p.m., a Lansing Post Trooper was involved in a multi-vehicle fatal crash on Business 127 and Cutler Road in DeWitt Twp. The MSP Investigative Reponse Team was called to the scene to investigate.MSP News Release

On Friday July 19th, 2019, at the intersection of Business 127 and Cutler Road is where the fatal accident took place.

A Michigan State Police Trooper was driving west bound on Cutler Road when the trooper collided with a semi truck that was traveling northbound on Business 127. As a result of the initial collision, a secondary crash occurred involving a vehicle that was traveling southbound on Business 127.

Michigan State Police stated that the trooper was pulling out onto Business 127 from Cutler Road when he clipped a semi, then went out of control, crashing head-on into a third vehicle traveling southbound on Business 127.

David G. Engle, 26-years-old, of Dewitt, was pronounced dead at the scene. David Engle was the only occupant of his vehicle that was traveling southbound on Business 127.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, the Dewitt Township Police Department, and the Dewitt Fire Department assisted MSP at the scene of the crash.

The remains under investigation by the MSP Investigative Reponse Team.
