Unfortunately he ended up underneath the surface and never came back up. The 30 year old man from Kinde had been in the water with his fiancé and her children, who were also caught off guard by the water current. Fortunately the children were able to be brought back to shore by their mother, who in turn called 911.

Arriving first responders consisting Huron County Sheriff’s Deputies, Caseville Police, Port Austin Fire and Caseville Fire organized and began a water search assisted by family and bystanders. Just over 20 minutes later, the victim was found and brought to shore, where police EMTs, a responding Paramedic and a Registered Nurse Anesthetist who lives nearby began life saving efforts. Their efforts continued over 40 minutes on the beach, as well as in Central Huron’s Ambulance on the way to Mclaren Thumb Region Hospital in Bad Axe. However, doctors ended up pronouncing the victim dead shortly after 10:30PM.

Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson said Even though the outcome was certainly not what any of us wanted, from what I witnessed on scene, I can attest to several fireman, police officers and ambulance personnel genuinely tying their best to overcome what unfortunately happened. Beach goers are asked to exercise extreme caution when swimming in rough water.
