PONTIAC, MI – On Saturday, August 16th Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a scene of a hit and run accident at 9:26 p.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Featherstone Rd.
A 19-year-old man from Detroit was operating a black minibike southbound on MLK Jr. Blvd when, according to several eyewitnesses, a green Chevrolet sedan attempted to turn left on Featherstone from MLK Jr. Blvd and collided with the minibike.
The victim was thrown from the minibike and came to rest on the sidewalk near the southwest corner of the intersection. The victim was not wearing a helmet and was transported to McLaren Pontiac. It was determined by emergency room physicians that the victim would need to be transported to Royal Oak Beaumont to undergo brain surgery. The victim remains in critical condition.
The OCSO Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to process the scene and take witness statements. Crash Investigators were able to compile a list of suspect vehicles through a search of the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office. By systematically eliminating possible suspects, OCSO Crash Investigators were able to locate the vehicle involved on August 20, 2019. A 1999 green Chevrolet Monte Carlo, which had front end damage consistent with the accident in question, is owned by an 80-year-old male resident of the City of
Pontiac. Upon interviewing the suspect, he admitted to hitting something on Saturday evening at that intersection and failing to report the accident.
The vehicle was impounded as evidence and Investigators will be presenting the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
