GRAYLING, MI – Troopers from the Houghton Lake Post are investigating a fatal traffic crash which occurred outside of Grayling early yesterday morning. The crash claimed the life of 33-year-old Brian Phillips of Grayling.
On Saturday September 14th, 2019, Brian Phillips was traveling northbound on I-75 near Wellington Way in Grayling Township at around 1:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.
During the investigation into the accident and according to witness statements, it was determined that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway. The vehicle overturned and the driver, Brian Phillips, was ejected.
Brian Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The accident remains under investigation. It is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident but speed was believed to be a factor.
This traffic crash remains under investigation, troopers said, and while speed is believed to be a factor, it is unknown whether drugs and alcohol played a part at this time.
Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, MMR, and Ausable Towing.
