DETROIT, MI – A 28-year-old Oxford Man is being charged in the fatal crash that killed a man holding a sign on Gratiot Ave.
Matthew C. Bockhart, 28-years-old, of Oxford, has been charged in connection with a fatal car crash that occurred on Wednesday September 11th, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.
It is alleged that Matthew Bockhart was driving recklessly when he struck and killed a 65-year-old man at Gratiot Avenue and Linnhurst Street. The victim was struck while he was working as a sign holder for a local business.
It is further alleged that Matthew Bockhart’s car dragged the victim’s body approximately 150 feet from the crash scene as he fled from the area. . Investigation by Detroit Fatal Squad officers identified Bockhart as the driver. On September 12th, 2019 he was taken into custody in Oakland County.
Matthew Bockhart has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death and Failure to Stop at Scene of Accident-When at Fault-Causing Death. He was arraigned on September 14, 2019 in 34th District Court in Romulus. He received a $50,000/10% with a GPS tether. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled on September 24, 2019, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled on October 1, 2019 in 36th District Court.
