DETROIT, MI – On Saturday September 21st, 2019, at about 11:00PM, Detroit Police were dispatched to D & D Liquorland located at 16215 Schoolcraft for a person who was said to be Dead on Scene.
When Detroit Police arrived on scene they learned much more had taken place prior to a 77-year-old man who had been gunned down.
When the victim, Lewis Putrus, 77-years-old, was leaving out of the store, the first suspect came from around the corner and demanded money from him at gunpoint. The victim did what he was told to do. The suspect then turned to a 56-year-old witness and demanded money from him also.
A second suspect came from around the corner of the building and was moving in the direction of Lewis Putrus. That’s when the witness told police that he heard 2-3 gunshots.
Lewis Putrus was pronounced dead at the scene.
The store is owned by his brother. The Midwest Independent Retailers Foundation is offering a $10,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting death of Mr. Putrus.
Both suspects fled the location on foot. One of the suspects fled back around the corner of the building where he had emerged from and the second suspect was last seen running on foot west on Schoolcraft.
Detroit Police did recover a gun near the victim’s body.
There are no suspects in custody at this time. No further information is available at this time. Please check back for updates.
