Macomb County Sheriff’s Dispatcher Killed in Crash

RAY TOWNSHIP, MI – On Tuesday October 8th, 2018, at approximately 7:20am, Macomb County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to North Ave and 31 Mile Rd. for a crash involving two vehicles and a deer. One of the drivers, Erika Ladas, 28-years-old, out of Capac, died as a result of the  crash.

A silver Chevy Captiva was traveling southbound on North Ave when it struck a deer north of 31 Mile Rd. The deer was thrown into oncoming traffic and struck the windshield, entering the passenger compartment of a white Ford 500 traveling northbound on North Ave. The Ford veered off the roadway and struck a tree.

The lone 40-year-old female Chevy driver, out of Armada,  was uninjured.

The lone driver of the Ford, Erika Ladas, was transported to the hospital where she died from her injuries.

Erika Ladas worked as a dispatcher for the Macomb County Sheriffs since January of 2019 and will be greatly missed. “Erika was an asset to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office in her short time here. She was a part of our law enforcement family. She worked diligently in dispatch to provide public safety to citizens in need. Our condolences are with her family.” – Sheriff Anthony Wickersham.

It is unknown if seatbelts were worn at this time and alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate this incident. North Ave. between 31 and 32 Mile was closed for several hours.
