Alpena Man Arrested after Selling Drugs to Undercover Officers

ALPENA, MI – An investigation into the sales of drugs in the city of Alpena,  that started in May of 2019, resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old Alpena man on September 18th.Carl Standen

Detectives from HUNT (Huron Undercover Narcotics Team) arrested Carl Dale Standen after they were able to allegedly make multiple purchases of illegal drugs from the suspect. Standen was arrested at his residence in the 300 block of W. Washington Avenue in Alpena.

At the time that Carl Standen was arrested, there were a total of seven minor children in the home. The youngest being only 8 months old. HUNT detectives contacted the Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) concerning the welfare of the children. Officials from MDHHS also responded to the scene and took custody of the minor children at that time.

A 15-year-old girl, not related to Standen, was also found inside of the home. She fled the scene on foot after providing detectives with a false identity. She was apprehended after she entered an unlocked dwelling and placed into custody by probate officials. She was lodged in a juvenile detention facility following a hearing in probate court.

Once the home was secured, officers found methamphetamine and analogue pills. Carl Standen was charged with one count of delivery of methamphetamine, one count of delivery of schedule I, II and III narcotics, possession of analogues, maintaining a drug house, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Standen was lodged in the Alpena County Jail. His bond was set at $75,000 cash/surety. He was later released when bond was posted by a second party.

HUNT was assisted by officers from the Alpena City Police Department and officials with MDHHS Alpena.
