Fatal Traffic Crash in Lapeer County Claims Life of 44 yr old Man

RICH TOWNSHIP, MI – On Thursday November 21st, 2019, at 7:19 PM, Lapeer County 911 dispatched Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies to a roll over injury traffic crash at the intersection of Silverwood Road and Swaffer Road in Silverwood in Lapeer County’s Rich Township.Rich County Fatal Crash

44-year-old Ronald Romanowski, from Silverwood, was the driver and lone occupant of a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling north on Silverwood Road. Romanowski struck a deer within the roadway. The deer departed the right (east) side and Romanowski’s vehicle departed the left (west) side of the roadway.

Romanowski traveled within a ditch until the Swaffer Road intersection. At the intersection, the vehicle traveled airborne over Swaffer Road and subsequently rolled/vaulted into a plowed farm field. The vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side with Romanowski who was not wearing a seat belt partially ejected. Romanowski was pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway was closed for about 2 1?2 hours for rescue and investigative purposes. Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by Michigan State Police (Lapeer Post), Mayville Fire and Rescue, Mayville Ambulance Service, and Lapeer County EMS Ambulance Service.

This traffic crash remains under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office.
