M-53 Reopens in Macomb County after Fatal Accident

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI – On December 1st, 2019, at approximately 10:00am, Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on M-53 and 26 Mile Rd. The vehicle was on fire and there were no survivor’s.

Witnesses reported that the blue Jeep Cherokee was traveling southbound on M-53, north of 26 Mile Rd when it left the roadway at a high rate of speed. The vehicle traveled through the median and then struck a pole and caught fire. The Washington Township Fire department responded and extinguished the vehicle.

It is believed that the vehicle was occupied by only one occupant.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate this incident. Both north and southbound M-53 between 26 Mile and 30 Mile Roads were closed due to the accident. The roadway reopened just shortly before 5:00pm.
